After reading through The Four Quartets and thinking about The Inner Light episode of Star Trek, something on page 14 had me a pondering....
"The surface glittered out of heart of light,
And they were behind us, reflected in the pool.
Then a cloud passed,and the pool was empty."
This is the part where the pool is empty, yet full of meaning. It made me think of the ending message that the Kataanians leave for the Captain. From this empty world,
the fleeting memories (moments of heart of light)of the Kataanians will live forever in the depths of the Captain's mind... well that and the flute. But more importantly the Captain's mind!
"Footfalls echo in the memory
Down the passage which we did not take
Towards the door never opened
Into the rose-garden. My words echo
Thus, in your mind."
Footfalls... echo... memory.....
Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Flute!
The flute echoes the memory of the life that the Captain never really lived.

I really like what you have pulled from the Four Quartets and how you have linked it to the Star Trek episode. Love the connection to the flute! That was the best part of the whole episode!
