Miracles Do Happen!

Wow, I am so stoked!! I started reading Haroun and the Sea of Stories, by Salman Rushdie last night, and something very strange happened.

I stared at the cover in disgust; a hideous cover in my opinion, something I would NEVER have chosen in a bookstore, yet I begrudgingly picked it up. Having no prior knowledge of what to expect, I immediately despised the book, and with a heavy heart I began to read.

Chapter one: The Shah of Blah

“There was once, in the country of Alifbay, a sad city, the saddest of cities, a city so ruinously sad that it had forgotten its name.”

That was it. I set the book aside and took a nap.

A couple hours later after the nice interlude, I once again opened the book. I forced my eyes to follow the words on the page only absorbing enough so I could understand what was happening. This is where the “something strange” comes into play. Soon colorful images filled my mind and characters came to life, and I was eager to know what would happen on the next page. Somehow, unbeknownst to me, I started to enjoy myself. I made it slightly past the halfway mark in the book, and I was feeling devastated and truly concerned; I was terrified that someone would give away the ending during class and ruin it for me. Luck was on my side today! I can happily read this surprising book with blissful ignorance of what shall happen. It must be a school-time miracle!!

Now I am off to finish the book!! Keep your fingers crossed that the 19 other books I have to read this semester are as good as this one!!
